MDHI Announces Air Medical Sale to Sky FlightCare
DALLAS, Texas, Feb. 9, 2003 - MD Helicopters, Inc. (MDHI) today announced the sale of an air medical MD Explorer to Sky FlightCare of Coatesville, Penn.
The light twin-engine MD Explorer will be fully equipped for emergency medical service, including single-pilot instrument flight rule (SP IFR) capability. Sky FlightCare selected the MD Explorer after a nine-month evaluation of new-technology helicopters. The aircraft will be delivered this fall.
"After evaluating various helicopters, it became clear that the MD Explorer is the only aircraft incorporating the latest technology, ample cabin space for medical crews, plus the added benefits of increased safety and quiet afforded by the NOTAR system," said Mark H. Eckert, program director for Sky FlightCare. "The MD Explorer has proven to be an extremely capable aircraft, well suited for inter-hospital transfers and pre-hospital trauma operations, especially scene responses into confined areas."
The Sky FlightCare flight and medical crews selected the MD Explorer because of its large cabin size, excellent working space with total patient access, and its advanced cockpit layout and avionics. "With the MD Explorer, we will be 100 percent mission-capable," said Jeffrey P. Hatt, marketing coordinator and Sky FlightCare pilot. "We are convinced that the MD Explorer will enhance the ability of our crews to give the best possible medical care."
Sky FlightCare, celebrating its 20th anniversary, is an FAA Part 135 operation, providing helicopter medical transport in Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware and Maryland.
The MD Explorer is one of five helicopters manufactured and sold by MDHI in Mesa, Ariz. Other products include the single-engine MD 600N, MD 520N, MD 500E and MD 530F.
Only MD helicopters feature the patented NOTAR anti-torque system. MDHI is celebrating its fourth anniversary this week at Heli-Expo 2003.
